Muktinath Tour

Muktinath lies at the Muktinath valley at an altitude of 3710 m in Mustang district of Nepal. Mukti means salvation, and Nath means god. This temple lies on the western side of Kalodanda in between Annapurna Himalayan (south) and Damodar Himalaya (north). Muktinath lies in the rain shadow area of the Great Himalaya and at the head of Jhong Khola (a tributary of Kali Gandaki) of the trans Himalayan dry zone. In Hinduism Muktinath is popular as “Mukti Kshetra”. This temple is considered to be 106th among the available 108 Divya Desam (premium temples) considered sacred by the Sri Vaishnava sect. It is also one of the 51 Shakti peethams. For Tibetan Buddhists, Muktinath is a very important place of dakinis, goddesses known as Sky Dancers, and one of the 24 Tantric places. They understand the murti to be a manifestation of Avalokiteśvara, who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.
